Grupo Simec's operations in the steel industry started in Guadalajara, México in 1969 when a group of families from Jalisco state founded Compañía Siderúrgica de Guadalajara. Compañía Siderúrgica de Guadalajara, S.A. de C.V. consolidated in 1990 all of its industrual operations under one firm: Grupo Simec, which main business is steel.

In 1993 the production capacity grew with Compañía Siderúrgica de California, which started operations in Mexicali B.C., México. Today, Grupo Simec is the leading mini-mill steel producer in México, and manufactures a broad range of small an medium structural shapes, rebar and bar products. Our very well diversified line of products find their final use in a variety of industries such as construction, aerospace, mining, ship building and repair, transportation and automotive.

In 2001 Industrias CH acquired 82.5% of the shares of Grupo Simec, S.A. de C.V.

In 2004, Simec bought Grupo Sidenor's shares in Mexico, consisting of two plants located in Apizaco, Tlaxcala, and Cholula, Puebla, that specialize in manufacturing special bar quality steels, merchant shapes and rebar. With this operation, Simec significantly increased its installed capacity and sales, and consolidated its position as Mexico's leading special bar quality producer.

In 2005, ICH and Simec purchased Republic Engineered Products Inc., now known as Republic Steel, a market leader of special bar quality steels in the United States and owner of five American plants located in Canton, Lorain and Massillon, in Ohio; Lackawanna, New York; Gary, Indiana, and an additional plant located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

In 2006, ICH along with Simec was established as the main producer of special bar quality steels on the American continent, thanks to the consolidation of the Republic investments.

In 2008, Grupo Simec acquired Corporación Aceros DM, S.A. de C.V. and certain affiliates (Grupo San), a producer of long steels and one of the most important corrugated rebar producers in the Mexican Republic, located in San Luis Potosi. This allowed ICH and Simec to be positioned as the second largest bar producer in the country and as the main Mexican steel producer.

In 2011, Republic acquired the assets of Bluff City (BCS Industries), which comprise heat treatment and cold drawing plants for steel bars, located in Cleveland, Ohio, and Memphis, Tennessee, U.S. With this acquisition Republic increases and complements its production capacity for Special Bar Quality steels, offering greater added value.

In 2012, ICH along with Simec, completed a series of investments in San Luis Potosi, S.L.P., Mexico, which allowed the existing facility to reach an annual capacity of 1 million tons of steel billet to produce rebar, wire rod, and wire rod derivatives.

In terms of its production capacity shipping volume and net sales, Grupo SIMEC is one of the Mexican steel companies with the greatest growth in recent years. Currently, it continues to focus its strengths on improving its leading position as a producer and processor of special bar quality steels and commercial steel products, in addition to identifying the opportunities that will allow it to improve its position in the American market and continue diversifying its product line.
