Quality

Grupo SIMEC believes that its adherence to the strict procedures established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) not only makes its production more efficient, it also places the company in a position of compliance with the strict quality standards that its clients require.

The ISO standards cover each aspect of quality, from administrative responsibility to service and delivery. SIMEC has a total quality program that is designed to improve customer service, general training for its personnel and teamwork.

Since 1995, the steel mill plants in Guadalajara and Mexicali belonging to the Simec subsidiary qualified for ISO-9002 certification, a certificate issued by the British Standards Institution. Likewise, all of the Grupo Simec companies participate in the National Quality Award model.

The Apizaco and Cholula plants received the ISO 9001:2000 certification for the January 2007 to July 2010 period, which has been renewed until March 11, 2013.

The Republic plants in the United States currently hold the ISO/TS 16949:2002 certificate. The ISO/TS 16949 standard, developed by the International Automotive Task Force, is the result of the quality requirements of vehicle manufacturer suppliers around the world and comprises a single quality system for continuous improvement, the prevention of defects and the reduction of variation and waste on the supply chain. It places a higher emphasis on the prevention of defects and the reduction of variations and waste in the supply chain.

The Republic plants also have the ISO 14001 (valid until November, 2013) and the OHSAS 18001 (valid until February, 2012) certificates, through which the management system for environmental protection and health and safety is structured on the training, communication, employee participation, control of the objectives and results to be achieved, as well as periodic review of management to implement environmental protection and to provide a safe and clean workspace. Most of Republic's clients from the automotive industry require the ISO 14001 certification, unlike the OHSAS, which is voluntary.

Measurement Laws

The Ministry of the Economy, through the General Office of Standards (DGN) has issued provisions that are applicable to many of the products produced by the company. Specifically, in compliance with the Federal Measurement and Standards Act, the DGN has established quality and safety standards that must be met by the company products; Republic believes that all of its products comply with DGN provisions.
